Treatments

Reflexology

Reflexology is a popular therapy that was first introduced to the west in the early twentieth century as "zone therapy." This technique involves the physical act of applying pressure to the body, with specific thumb, finger, and hand techniques. Specific points are targeted and worked on in order to send signals to the brain and balance the nervous system. Today, reflexology therapy not only targets the hands and feet, but also the entire back in order to improve health benefits and promote relaxation. Acupressure and deep tissue techniques are applied to the entire body, starting from the feet and legs and working up to the arms, ears, and head. Used sometimes an alternative to Western medicinal treatment, reflexology works wonders as it can heal not only the mind but also the body and its aches.

Reflexology is an ancient art of therapy that promotes relaxation, improves circulation, encourages overall healing, improves the immune system, and reduces pain, tension, and toxins. As it stimulates your nerve function, reflexology generates a deep tranquil relaxation that helps the body balance itself and allow healing energy to flow. This treatment method can even be effective in offering relief from ailments such as (but not limited to) back pain, migraines, infertility, arthritis, insomnia, digestive problems, and hangovers.

Our therapists will stretch and move your hands, feet, and limbs, applying pressure on reflex areas that correspond to specific organs, glands, and muscle groups. You can't help but feel relaxed as endorphins are released in your body, reducing stress, and returning the body to equilibrium. As you surrender your body into the care of our trained professionals, your mind will go off into a state of serenity. The reflexologist will accommodate your personal needs, spending extra time on tender areas in which the soreness will decrease with pressure. Let us take care of you, whether it's just to relax or to heal your medical condition!

Traditional Chinese Deep Tissue

The deep tissue technique is commonly designed to help with muscle damage from injuries and sports, but also if you are deeply stressed. This treatment will loosen your body up and relieve it of toxins with its slower, more forceful strokes as it targets certain areas for greater relief. The deep tissue process is known to vastly improve the condition of many different body parts.

Let our reflexologists take care of you with this session that not only brings pleasure and relaxation but also superior health benefits. Our therapists are able to use all parts of his or her hands and arms to rejuvenate muscles and body tissues beyond the external level.

What to Expect in your ONE HOUR FULL BODY REFLEXOLOGY TREATMENT

A typical reflexology session begins by cleansing the feet with a warm tea bath or with a steaming towel. After the feet are cleaned and warmed, the treatment begins. While your feet are soaking in a hot detoxifying tea bath, let our reflexologist work out all the tensions in your neck, shoulders, arms and back. During the rest of your 1 hour treatment, all pressure points in your head and feet will be worked on, to complete the full body treatment.

At the outset, we may ask you if you want the pressure to be applied soft, medium, or hard. Notify the front desk if you have any problem areas, so the therapist can focus on the reflex points that will alleviate these issues.

A complete session focuses on the 65 reflex points on the feet, each of which corresponds to a particular gland, organ or body part. The reflexologist applies pressure with specific thumb, finger and hand techniques to the reflex points, looking for 'crystals' near the nerve endings. The theory advocates that nerve endings are unable to transmit their impulses because of these crystalline deposits that build up and block the pathway and thus circulation to/from the feet and the body parts and organs. Pressure is applied to the crystals to break them up. (Indonesian reflexologists refer to the crystals as pasir, or sand.)

As the reflexologist applies pressure to the various points, let him/her know if the pressure is too hard or too soft. A good reflexologist will look at your facial expressions and feel you tensing or jerking to avoid pain, and adjust the pressure accordingly. Feel free to ask which part of the body a particular reflex point is effecting, especially if you feel pain there! We keep charts of the reflex points for your reference in the spa. It is normal to feel some pain during a reflexology session, especially in early treatments.
